Professional Information:
I am currently a fourth grade teacher at Kerby Elementary School in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. For the past two years I have taught all day Kindergarten and truly enjoyed working with the earliest of elementary students. Making the switch to an upper elementary classroom has been a blast and I have learned a great deal about myself and my passion for education, no matter which grade I am teaching! In addition to teaching, I am also the teacher in charge of the fourth grade Homework Club. During the winter, I am also the assistant coach for the Grosse Pointe United (Varsity) Gymnastics team at Grosse Pointe North High School. I enjoy working with students of all ages while I help them create and meet their individual goals whether we are in the gym or classroom!
Educational Information:
I received my Bachelor's of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University in 2009. While earning my teaching degree, I decided to focus on the area of Social Studies (History). I hold a Provisional teaching certificate in the state of Michigan for K-6 self contained classrooms and an Social Studies endorsement (RX, grades 6-8). Upon graduating from Michigan State I spent one school year in the Detroit Public Schools teaching first grade as a part of my MSU internship, while concurrently taking Master's classes at MSU's Downtown Detroit location. During the summer of 2011 I began taking classes (again through Michigan State) in order to obtain my Master's degree in Elementary Education with a focus on literacy education. I will complete my Master's program in May 2013!
Personal Information:
When I am not teaching full time, tutoring during "Homework Club" after school, coaching the gymnastics team, or working on my Master's degree I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Other than the four years that I spent in East Lansing, I have spent my entire life living in Grosse Pointe, MI. I love living near my parents and younger sister, Kelly (they are all in the picture in the upper lefthand-side of this page.) My favorite season in Michigan is Summer! Living right next to Lake St. Clair allows for many enjoyable views and entertainment options during this season. I also enjoy traveling. There's nothing like a warm beach trip during Michigan winters!
